Joseph Rucci

Bio

Joe maintains a broad litigation practice in commercial, public, and administrative law. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and before various administrative and arbitral tribunals.

Joe represents clients in partnership and insurance disputes, civil sexual assault claims, regulatory inquiries, workplace investigations, as well as in domestic and international commercial arbitrations. He is also a member of Conway’s trial team representing taxi plate owners and brokers in a class action against the City of Ottawa. Joe and his colleagues helped secure one of the only judgments worldwide finding a public authority liable in negligence to its taxi industry over the introduction of Uber.  

Joe also advises professionals, businesses, and regulatory bodies seeking to minimize their litigation risk in commercial transactions, particularly those at the intersection of private and public law. His experience includes drafting and negotiating complex funding, licensing, partnership, and services agreements as well as memoranda of understanding.

Prior to joining Conway as an associate, Joe articled with the firm and graduated from McGill University with degrees in common and civil law on the Dean’s Honour List. During law school, he was the recipient of the J.S.D. Tory Writing Award for excellence in legal writing and research.

Outside of the office, Joe enjoys playing tennis, revisiting old school Italian cinema, and learning new languages. As a proud native New Yorker and former Montrealer, he looks forward to the day he will finally find a satisfactory pizza or bagel in Ottawa.
